Postdoctoral Researcher

University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Quantitative Biomedical Research Center
United States TX Dallas

Description

Center Information
The successful candidates will join the research groups led by Dr. Yang Xie and Dr. Guanghua Xiao within the Quantitative Biomedical Research Center (QBRC). QBRC fosters a highly collaborative research environment that brings together computational scientists, clinicians, and biomedical researchers to address pressing challenges in precision medicine and biomedical data science.
QBRC is a renowned research center within the Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW). Its mission is to advance quantitative methods and technologies across biomedical research, with a strong emphasis on clinical decision support, translational data science, and innovative computational approaches.
QBRC is also the home of the Data Science and AI for Precision Health Initiative (DAPHI) at UTSW, a major institutional effort that provides access to state-of-the-art computational resources, rich multi-modal datasets (clinical, imaging, omics, sensors), and a vibrant community of researchers working at the intersection of AI, data science, and precision health.

Available Positions
Dr. Xie and Dr. Xiao’s groups are recruiting three Postdoctoral Researchers, each focusing on distinct but complementary areas of biomedical AI and data science:

• Position 1: Postdoctoral Researcher in Medical Image Analysis (Pathology or Radiology)
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Develop advanced deep learning methods for radiology or pathology medical imaging
• Integrate imaging data with EHR, clinical notes, or genomic data
• Conduct research on segmentation, classification, detection, and related imaging tasks
• Design self-supervised or weakly supervised learning approaches for large-scale datasets

• Position 2: Postdoctoral Researcher in EHR-based Prediction and Clinical Risk Monitoring
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Build early warning and clinical deterioration prediction models
• Develop continuous clinical risk trajectory modeling frameworks
• Model time-series data such as vitals, labs, and clinical events
• Apply deep learning and transformer-based approaches to longitudinal EHR data
• Integrate multi-modal data (EHR, labs, vitals, imaging, etc.)

• Position 3: Postdoctoral Researcher in Spatial Omics and Multi-Modal Data Integration
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Develop computational and machine learning methods for spatial omics data (spatial transcriptomics, spatial proteomics, multiplex imaging)
• Model spatial cellular organization, tissue architecture, and microenvironmental interactions
• Design multi-scale models of tissue structure, function, and disease progression
• Collaborate with translational and clinical teams within UTSW and DAPHI to advance precision health research using emerging spatial technologies
