The Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) is more than just an educational institution. We are a modern educational and research hub that brings together talented educators, experts, and thought leaders to foster a strong and innovative Ukrainian economy.
We are seeking a creative and collaborative Researcher in Computational Biology to join the Laboratory for Mechanistic Learning of Ageing Biology at the Computer Science Department at KSE.
We aim to improve our understanding of ageing biology by focusing on two complementary approaches: model building and data analysis. As a computational biologist, the researcher is expected to focus primarily on the former axis while collaborating with the entire team. Specific projects will be defined together based on the researcher's aspirations and the lab philosophy.
Key missions and responsibilities include:
- Design mechanistic models of multi-omics cellular dynamics rooted in first principles from, e.g., statistical physics, stochastic processes, or chemical reaction network theory.
- Translate these models into scalable computational frameworks.
- Support the data analysis team in applying in-house and public models to ageing and disease data.
- Support PhD and Master's students in the lab.
- Publish research outcomes in high-impact journals and present at leading conferences.
The position is flexible but requires a minimum of 6 months per year of in-person presence in Kyiv to engage with the lab. We will assist with accommodation search and local logistics during this period.
PhD in Computational Biology, Computer Science, Applied Physics/Mathematics, or a closely related field.
Strong expertise in quantitative life science and mathematical modeling.
Proficiency in programming languages (preferably R and/or Python) and package development process
Demonstrated ability to perform independent research and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
