Description

The Department of Translational and Computational Infection Research at Ruhr University Bochum is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join our dynamic and interdisciplinary team. Our department serves as a link between the campus and the university hospitals, focusing on the interactions between pathogens and their hosts. We utilize cutting-edge methods at the intersection of computational and laboratory techniques to develop new therapies for infectious diseases.

As a Scientist in our department, you will play a crucial role in advancing our research projects. You will be responsible for conducting independent research, utilizing state-of-the-art techniques such as single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq), spatial transcriptomics, high-throughput sequencing (HTS), and Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT). Your work will involve both computational and laboratory methods, making you a key player in integrating data and developing new methodologies.

Your tasks:
- Conduct independent research projects utilizing cutting-edge techniques such as single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq), spatial transcriptomics, high-throughput sequencing (HTS), and Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT).
- Collaborate with both computational and laboratory teams to integrate data and develop new methodologies.
- Design and execute experiments to investigate pathogen-host interactions, analyze data, and interpret results.
- Develop and optimize protocols for advanced molecular and computational techniques.
- Supervise and mentor junior researchers, graduate students, and interns in their scientific projects.
- Author and co-author scientific publications and present research findings at national and international conferences.

Qualifications

- PhD or equivalent in a relevant scientific field.
- Experience with one or more of the following methods: scRNAseq, spatial transcriptomics, HTS, ONT.
- Strong background in either laboratory techniques or bioinformatics.
- Experience with artificial intelligence (AI) driven methods in infection research is desirable.
- Very good written and spoken English skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Team-oriented and independent working style.
