The Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of Science is looking for a full-time (100%) Machine Learning Engineer to join the research team of Prof. Dr. Wout Bittremieux.

Position

• Our international research team develops cutting-edge AI solutions for the analysis of mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics data. Our research aims to understand the role of biomolecules as fundamental building blocks of life.
• You will design and implement efficient, scalable, and user-friendly machine learning and bioinformatics software to support groundbreaking research.
• Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
◦ Translating state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning research software into robust, user-friendly applications.
◦ Developing web applications for scientific tools.
◦ Scaling up deep learning models by optimizing architectures and compiling high-quality training datasets.
◦ Managing and improving high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure for AI workloads.
• You will collaborate closely with the Adrem Data Lab, an internationally renowned research group known for both theoretical and applied innovations in data science, and Biomina, a multidisciplinary network bridging data science and life sciences.

Qualifications

• You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, or related fields.
• You have a strong background in software engineering and machine learning.
• You are proficient in Python, PyTorch, NumPy, and other relevant scientific computing tools.
• Experience with web development, cloud computing, and HPC systems is a plus.
• While knowledge of molecular biology or life sciences is not required, familiarity is an advantage. If applicable, highlight this in your cover letter.
• You are an excellent communicator (written and verbal) in English, with strong interpersonal skills.
• You have an inquisitive mindset, an independent work ethic, and strong problem-solving abilities.
