Overview: The Center for Neurogenetics at UTHealth Houston, under the leadership of Dr. Dennis Lal, seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join an innovative research team. This role focuses on advancing neurogenetics research by integrating genomics, bioinformatics, and clinical data, particularly in epilepsy and neurodevelopmental disorders. The fellow will engage in diverse projects, ranging from large-scale genomic data analysis to the development of computational tools and bioinformatic pipelines. The position offers a collaborative environment, emphasizing innovation, mentorship, and opportunities for rapid professional growth.
List of Responsibilities:
1. Research & Analysis:
• Analyze large-scale genomic, molecular, and clinical datasets to uncover insights into neurological disorders and genotype-phenotype relationships.
• Develop and implement computational methods for data integration and interpretation.
2. Tool & Resource Development:
• Enhance or create bioinformatic tools and resources to support the research community.
• Develop pipelines for genomic data processing and ensure their optimization and reproducibility.
3. Collaboration & Communication:
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including neurologists, genetic counselors, patients, basic scientists, and software developers.
• Lead independent research projects, contribute to team publications, and present findings in conferences.
4. Technical Skill Development:
• Strengthen expertise in bioinformatics and computational biology through project work and training.
• Stay updated on advances in genomic technologies and bioinformatic methods.
5. Professional Growth:
• Participate in mentorship programs offered by the research group.
• Work towards achieving rapid career advancement and research recognition through high-quality publications.
6. Publication & Presentation:
• Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
• Present research findings at national and international conferences.

• Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, or a related field.
• Strong coding abilities, with proven experience building and optimizing genomic data analysis pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python or R
• Experience with dashboard development tools (e.g., R Shiny, Python Dash)
• Experience with Unix/Linux environments and high-performance computing
• Demonstrated academic success with first-author publications in bioinformatics, genomics, or computer science.
• Excellent collaboration skills to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Willingness to fill gaps of knowledge in biology or medical aspects of the project that you lead.
