Description

The Director of Bioinformatics leads a team of experts in bioinformatics and biostatistics in the planning, designing, and implementing bioinformatics infrastructure to address clinical diagnostics production, R&D, and client needs. The Director formulates strategic plans for bioinformatics solutions, working closely with other team leads and executive leadership. The Director serves as the expert and champion of bioinformatics, strongly emphasizing innovation and development of best-in-class bioinformatics solutions.

Direct the planning, designing, development, implementation, and maintenance of the bioinformatics infrastructure, including data, hardware and software components, and system integration.

Oversee bioinformatics production, R&D, and client service efforts.

Provide the organization with short-term and long-term bioinformatics strategic plans to meet business objectives.

Direct a team of bioinformatics scientists in developing bioinformatics infrastructure, R&D, and client service.

Develop and deploy novel bioinformatics analyses and tools.

Monitor, review, and utilize emerging technologies.

Serve as bioinformatics subject matter expert to cross-functional teams.

Direct resolution of bioinformatics production issues.

Review and provide feedback on design, validation, testing methodology, documentation, and reports

Provide advice, guidance, and mentoring to bioinformatics staff.

Build and manage a staff of bioinformatics professionals.


Qualifications

Master’s or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related field.
7-10 years of experience in related Bioinformatics.
Extensive hands-on and in-depth experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis, NGS databases and tools, and NGS pipeline development.
Extensive experience analyzing multiple types of NGS data and facility with statistics for big data analysis and multi-omics data integration.
Extensive experience in designing, developing, implementing, and managing NGS analysis pipelines and workflows.
Experience leading bioinformatics development teams.
Strong hands-on skills in relevant programming languages.
Must enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment and leading and mentoring a bioinformatics team.
Excellent oral and written skills, including the ability to communicate openly, transparently, in a timely, and consistent manner.
