Description

The GGE lab is an internationally recognized research group working on the creation of computational methods to study the dynamics and regulation of gene expression. We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented postdoctoral researcher or research assistant to join our
group and work on genome annotation using long-read sequencing.

The GGE lab (conesalab.org
), part of INB/ELIXIR-ES, has developed over 20 software tools to analyze high-throughput genomics data that include a variety of approaches to design, store, analyze, integrate and visualize multi-omics datasets. We have pioneered the creation of software tools for the analysis of single molecule, long reads sequencing applied to transcriptome research and developed an approach for long-reads genome annotation. In our current “FAIRification of IsoSeq Evidence-driven annotation of the biodiversity” project (funded by Open Science Cluster’s Action for Research and Society) we aim to leverage long-reads transcriptomics and our ELIXIR tool SQANTI3, to develop the bioinformatic workflow to enhance genome annotation of genomes in the ERGA (European Reference Genome Archive) database. The candidate will closely collaborate with the ERGA community to create, test and validate and long-read supported annotation pipeline applicable to a wide range of organisms that will be deployed as an open-source development of the ELIXIR and ERGA infrastructures.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a MSc or PhD in Computational Biology or related discipline, with knowledge in Python and R. Experience in the analysis of NGS data as well as Nextflow, Docker and Singularity is highly recommended, as well as knowledge in genome annotation strategies and interest in biodiversity studies. Good written and oral communication skills in English is a must.

How to Apply

If you are interested, please send your motivation letter and CV to conesalab@gmail.com by October 15th.
The position is funded for 2 years with salary according to CSIC rules depending on candidate experience.

We offer an exciting multidisciplinary and multicultural team with a strong international orientation. Our lab hosts researchers from five different countries and are rapidly expanding incorporating members with backgrounds in computer science, biotechnology, biochemistry, bioinformatics and engineering. We are established at the I2SysBio (Valencia), a joint UV-CSIC institute with a focus on Systems Biology and Computational Modelling, recognized by its scientific excellence. The GGE lab and the I2SysBio offers a high quality, friendly and inclusive environment for scientific growth. We strongly encourage females and members from underrepresented minorities to apply.
