We seek graduate students interested in both protein bioinformatics and education research. For the protein bioinformatics part, your project may include investigating mechanisms of protein evolution, evolution of protein structure and function, molecular mimicry between viruses and their hosts, and virus evolution. Projects will be tailored based on the successful candidates' interest. There is flexibility in designing the protein bioinformatics project and innovative, creative project ideas are encouraged. For the education research part, you will contribute to a recently funded project that aims to provide undergraduate biology students with a) increased access to bioinformatics-driven biomedical research experiences, b) improved transferable skills, c) fundamental bioinformatics skills and knowledge, d) leadership experiences, and e) strategies for setting and reaching career goals.
Required qualifications:
An undergraduate degree in bioinformatics, biology, genetics, or similar with research experience
Interest in both research and teaching
Interest in programming
Desired qualifications:
Programming skills in Python or R
Experience from being a Learning Assistant
