Description

Job description
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET) is dedicated to pursuing world-class research and delivering high-quality education in the fields of biomedical engineering, biotechnology, medicine and health technology. We conduct internationally acclaimed basic and applied research.
The Systems and Network Medicine Laboratory led by Dr. Xin Lai at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology is looking for a talented Doctoral Researcher to join the lab. The position will be full-time and filled for a fixed-term period of four years maximum.
The Systems and Network Medicine Laboratory focuses on the integration of genomic data, computational modeling, and experimentation to address biomedical problems. In particular, we develop and apply systems medicine approaches to better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying human diseases such as cancer and to identify novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Widely used computational methods include kinetic modeling, network biology, and machine learning. Using these methods, we have elucidated how network motifs such as feedback and feedforward loops can regulate gene expression levels, identified cooperative microRNAs as potential therapeutic targets for reducing chemoresistance of tumor cells and improving the efficacy of immunotherapy, and identified subgroups of melanoma patients with different survival times and characterized their genomic features.
The selected candidate will work with the PI on various interdisciplinary research projects and will receive comprehensive training in advanced data analysis and computational modeling of biological systems, which will prepare them well for future academic and industrial career.

We offer:
The planned starting date is as soon as possible, or as mutually agreed. The position is full-time and it will be filled for a fixed-term period of four years maximum. A trial period of 6 months applies to all new employees.
The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a Doctoral Researcher is placed on level 2-4 of the job requirements scale. A typical starting salary for Doctoral Researchers is approximately 2600 EUR/month.
We offer a vibrant and international research environment with the potential to collaborate with researchers from Germany, Australia, China, India and the Philippines. There are opportunities to attend high-profile conferences and communicate your research with academic peers around the world. In addition, we offer a wide range of learning opportunities, including language and IT courses, as well as professional development seminars.
Our laboratory and offices are located at the new building at the Kauppi Campus of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology of Tampere University.
The campus has all state-of-the-art technology needed for the project and many world-level research teams, creating the perfect research environment. Meanwhile, the Faculty also provides many top-level courses in various related disciplines to support these doctoral studies.
As a member of staff at Tampere University, you will enjoy a range of competitive benefits, such as occupational health care services, flexible work schedule, versatile research infrastructure, modern teaching facilities and a safe and inviting campus area as well as a personal fund to spend on sports and cultural activities in your free time.
