The Laukens group of the Adrem Data Lab is a diverse and vibrant group of more than 20 Bioinformaticians, Computational Biologists and Data Scientists who all share a passion for working with (bio)medical data. The group is embedded within the UAntwerpen Core Facility BIOMINA, a hub in which computer scientists, life scientists, and medical experts collaborate to build solutions to interpret the next generation of complex life science data. As one of the BIOMINA partners, Adrem Data Lab has invented several solutions for data science (bioinformatics, machine learning) to transform clinical data into insights to help the patient. About the position:

The position includes the following tasks:

• You will play a key role in developing computational solutions to understand and control globally impactful infectious diseases, which are the predominant threat to life in low-and middle-income countries.
• As a Scientific Full-Stack Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our research group in building and managing cutting-edge biomedical informatics scientific research platforms. You will actively contribute to the development of cutting-edge scientific software and web-based tools specifically designed for bioinformatics applications (example: tcrex.biodatamining.be). This includes the development of a novel database capable of handling large-scale molecular data.
• You will interact with students, PhD candidates, and external stakeholders, and also contribute to training and demonstrations to users of the developed resources.

What we offer

• We offer an appointment for at least one year with the possibility of extension.
• You will receive a gross monthly salary within pay band 4.1-7.1 of the pay scales of the Administrative and Technical Staff. Your entry-level grade (usually grade 5) depends on your relevant professional experience.
• You will receive meal vouchers, ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, group insurance, an income protection insurance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
• We offer flexible working hours.
• You will have up to 40 days of annual leave and additional leave for 1 week when the university is closed, between Christmas and New Year.
• You will do most of your work at Campus Middelheim in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.

Qualifications

• You have a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science/Informatics/Bioinformatics or equivalent professional competencies gained through prior work experience.
• You have a solid understanding of relational database management systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL), and preferably knowledge about Python (Django, Redis), Docker, NextFlow, R (Shiny) and vector databases (e.g. Milvus).
• You are interested in working with molecular data and multidisciplinary teams. Prior background in this area is not necessary.
• You have good oral and written knowledge of English.
• You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
• You have strong organisational skills, communicate effectively and can deliver results on time.
