Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute is dedicated to recruiting the best and brightest research scientists across various disciplines, from cancer biology to neurobiology, immunobiology, and biology of development, regeneration, and aging. Leveraging The Prebys Center, the Institute’s state-of-the-art drug discovery and chemical biology center, we emphasize translating our basic research findings towards improving interventions against human diseases. We are currently seeking highly motivated faculty recruits (positions are open at all career stages, from Assistant to Full Professor) with cutting-edge expertise and track records in computational and systems biology, data science, machine learning/artificial intelligence, and bioinformatics to complement our existing strengths in basic and translational research and to enhance our capability for analysis of large -omics datasets. We are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in applying both experimental and computational multi-omic approaches (including transcriptomics, epigenomics, and proteomics) at the bulk, single-cell, and spatial level, to animal models, human tissues, or ex vivo models (e.g., organoids). The candidate will have the opportunity to participate in collaborative scientific initiatives entailing the generation and computational analysis of large data sets and involving other experts with complementary interests within the thriving research community in the San Diego area, including at Scripps, Salk, and UCSD. The collaborative research environment in San Diego is second to none.
An optimal candidate is expected to interact with computational scientists currently at the institute and to work toward implementing a bioinformatics platform at Sanford Burnham Prebys by mentoring trainees (i.e., students and postdocs) to generate the next generation of computational biologists at Sanford Burnham Prebys.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a ground-breaking research program addressing fundamental questions in biomedical sciences but should be equally interested in seeking opportunities to translate their findings into potential prognostic, diagnostic, and therapeutic applications for a range of human diseases. Sanford Burnham Prebys faculty are expected to secure support from diverse funding sources to establish rigorous and competitive research programs about fundamental mechanisms and therapeutic solutions addressing unmet medical needs. Faculty also have the opportunity to collaborate on common research interests and to explore the development of translational projects with our Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics, the Institute’s state-of-the-art technological center for drug discovery and chemical biology. Additionally, opportunities to collaborate with Sanford Burnham Prebys faculty in research-focused Centers, including Genetic Disorders and Aging Research, Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases, Sanford Children’s Health Research, and Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine.
Faculty positions require a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and an outstanding record of publications and research accomplishments relevant to the focus areas, specifically computational biology and bioinformatics.
