The Department of Biology at Elmhurst University welcomes applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of computational biology/bioinformatics beginning August 2023. Applicants with expertise in human genetics and whose research focuses on access and equity issues in healthcare are especially encouraged to apply.

The Department of Biology serves 180 majors and minors, participates in the University’s integrated curriculum, and supports nursing and allied health students. We advocate for an anti-racist and nondiscriminatory environment that supports an academic program focused on removing barriers to access and inclusion and promoting the success of all students regardless of visible and non-visible differences. Our curriculum follows the recommendations of “Vision and Change in Undergraduate Education: A Call to Action” (www.visionandchange.org) and we have been awarded a PULSE Recognition: Gold Progression Level (pulse-community.org).

The successful candidate will be expected to co-create and lead an undergraduate program in bioinformatics as well as specialized upper-level undergraduate courses in the field. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a biological discipline, demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, and outstanding potential as a professor in a comprehensive liberal arts setting. Primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching lectures and laboratories in courses designed for the bioinformatics program as well as majors’ level core biology courses, such as Genetics. The successful candidate should also possess a vision for developing a productive research program engaging undergraduates in their area of specialty.
