Description

We are seeking to fill a position for a postdoctoral researchers at the Computational Bioscience Research Center at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. The researcher will work in the group of Robert Hoehndorf on developing computational methods to analyze metagenomics data and apply them to environmental samples. The main focus of the position will be on the development of methods that characterize the interactions within a microbiome, using information from structural biology and machine learning methods.

The postdoctoral researcher will join a team of students and scientists in a highly interactive and collaborative environment, and will be responsible for carrying out research, including presentation of research results at conferences and in scientific journals. Postdoctoral researchers are entitled to a competitive salary (commensurate with the applicant's qualifications), fully-furnished housing on the KAUST campus, medical and life insurance, free education at KAUST schools for the researchers' children, and relocation allowance.

Qualifications

A completed PhD degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics, or related)

Experience, demonstrated by a publication record, in at least one of the following areas:
- Analysis or improvement of algorithms used in genomics,
- Innovative analysis of metagenomics data, in particular with respect to investigating protein functions and interactions within a microbial community

Additionally, it would be beneficial if applicants are familiar with genome graphs and alignment algorithms that rely on graph-based representations of genomes; assembly algorithms in particular for metagenomics and including different sequencing technologies (long and short reads); machine learning methods for prediction of protein structure, interactions, or protein functions.
