Description

The Mer lab ( merlab.github.io/ ) at the University of Ottawa, Canada is looking for highly motivated and skilled individuals to work in the area of bioinformatics, machine learning, stem cell, omics data analysis and personalized medicine. We have multiple funded graduate (MSc and Ph.D.) student positions available.

We are located at the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology (www.uottawa.ca/faculty-medicine/biochemistry-microbiology-immunology ) and part of the Ottawa-Carleton Joint Bioinformatics Program (www.bioinformatics.uottawa.ca ). Student with degree in computer science (or related field) will also have opportunity to enrol at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science graduate program (www.uottawa.ca/faculty-engineering/school-electrical-engineering-computer-science ).

Responsibilities:
Machine learning-based analysis of multi-omics data, stem cell data analysis, biomarker discovery for personalised medicine, single cell data analysis and development of computational tools for data analysis. For detailed information about our research please visit merlab.github.io/Research


Qualifications

- Good knowledge of programming (preferably R or Python)
- Practical experience in machine learning/deep learning
- Basic understanding of molecular biology, genomics, and omics profiling techniques
- Previous degree in bioinformatics, computational science or related disciplines will be a plus
- Good GPA
- Self-motivated and driven individual
- Excellent communication and writing skills in English.
- For international applicants, a valid English language test score may be required (Minimum required score for TOEFL iBT is 100 and IELTS is 7).
