Postdoctoral Associate – Cancer Epigenomics

The Li Lab focuses on algorithm development and integrative mining from multi-omics data to determine how somatic mutations alter the cancer epigenome and gene regulation in the context of aging (Cancer Discovery, 2018; Science Advances, 2020; Cancer Discovery, 2020; Nature Communications, 2020). We also pioneered the rapidly growing field of transcriptomics and epigenomics (Nature Biotechnology, 2014; Genome Biology, 2014; Nature Medicine, 2016; Genome Biology, 2021). Currently, the Li Lab is funded by multiple NIH five-year grants from NCI and NIGMS, and is a core member of the NIA/NCI joint-funded OncoAging consortium. For additional information, visit the Li Lab online.

We are looking for highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellows to

Develop an innovative and integrative data mining strategy to investigate cancer epigenomics and gene regulation; Discover novel insights to target the cancer disparity in early detection by developing predictive models and epigenetic biomarkers.

Successful applicants will have unique opportunities with

Our unique expertise in transcriptomic and epigenomic heterogeneity, multi-omics, rich biospecimens, and strong collaborators; Leadership development in projects devising cutting edge, pioneering technologies with high biomedical and clinical impact; An interdisciplinary lab culture where members with dry/wet lab experiences immerse in in-depth discussion and peer learning; Strong mentorship for research and career development. Robust institutional support in comprehensive core facilities, year-round on-site and online workshops, and manuscript/grant scientific editing.

Candidates with a research background in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genome Biology, Genomics, Epigenomics, Functional Genomics, or related quantitative area; Previous experience in sequencing data analysis is a plus but not required; Innovative and critical thinking; Capacity to learn and master new technologies and knowledge; Capacity to independently lead a research direction and adaptivity to a collaborative environment.

Please send the following documents to

CV with a list of publications; A brief cover letter; PDF files of your first/co-first author paper(s).

Salary is competitive and will be supplemented with funding for computational equipment and attending national and international conferences.

About JAX:

The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution with more than 2,400 employees. Headquartered in Bar Harbor, Maine, it has a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in Augusta, Maine, a genomic medicine institute in Farmington, Connecticut, and facilities in Ellsworth, Maine, Sacramento, California, and Shanghai, China. Its mission is to discover precise genomic solutions for disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health.

JAX employees work in a collaborative, value-driven, and team-based environment where the focus is on advancing science and improving patients’ lives. Researchers apply genetics to increase the understanding of human disease and advance treatments and cures for cancer, neurological and immune disorders, diabetes, aging, and heart disease. JAX was voted among the top 15 “Best Places to Work in Academia” in the United States in a poll conducted by The Scientist magazine!
