FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degree in technology and health related degree programs, other career-oriented degrees and liberal arts transfer degrees in its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Technology and Design, and Professional Studies.
The Biological Sciences Department at New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York is composed of a diverse group of faculty members with an impressive combination of backgrounds and specialties. In order to support its baccalaureate program in Biomedical Informatics, the department seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the following fields: Bioinformatics and/or Medical/Health Informatics. We welcome candidates from both biological and computational/mathematical backgrounds who will complement the current strengths of the department. Potential areas of study include but are not limited to the following: healthcare analytics, predictive modeling, personalized medicine, cancer genomics, population genomics and systems biology.
The position requires a commitment to teaching, scholarly research resulting in publications and presentations, sustained service to the department and college, assessment and academic advisement. Courses to be taught will depend on faculty specialty and will include introductory and advanced courses in biomedical informatics. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach both biology (genetics and molecular/cell biology) and informatics-based courses. Student research mentoring is strongly encouraged. The successful candidate will be expected to perform teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise and share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. Current research in the fields identified is required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Health Informatics, Clinical Informatics or related fields, or an M.D. with relevant research experience in those fields. Also required are the ability to teach effectively, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Teaching experience is highly desired, preferably with a multicultural student population in an urban environment. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in curriculum development, use of innovative instructional methods, and significant grant writing experience. Candidates should have effective communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
