University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) was recently awarded a research training grant entitled: Biomedical Informatics, Genomics and Translational Cancer Research Training Program (BIG-TCR) from The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas. Our mission is to provide a highly interactive, innovative, and interdisciplinary training environment to train the next-generation researchers and leaders in the field of cancer research, by leveraging UTHealth’s top research programs in cancer biology, stem cell biology, pharmacology and drug discovery, genomics and other omics, data science and artificial intelligence, clinical informatics, and translational medicine.


Qualifications

To apply to this fellowship, applicants must:
• be either citizens, permanent residents of the United States, or international trainees holding a valid visa for the duration of the fellowship in the UTHealth;
• live and work in Texas during the fellowship period;
• have already earned a doctorate degree within the last 3 years when the program starts, in the fields of informatics, quantitative, biological, or translational sciences, or the related, and strong interest in cancer research;
• conduct their BIG-TCR research in a UTHealth-affiliated laboratory.

Program benefits and duration:
• NIH-based salary (can be supplemented with higher salary by the mentor) and other benefits (e.g. health insurance, retirement, etc.);
• $2,000 travel expenses for presentations at national meetings;
• Other program resources such as computing and networks;
• BIG-TCR postdoctoral fellows will be appointed for one year with the possibility of renewal, dependent upon successful research and academic progress, and active engagement in the BIG-TCR Training Program.
