The Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston seeks to hire two Presidential Frontier Faculty tenure-track faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Presidential Frontier Faculty program is a University-wide integrated interdisciplinary hiring campaign that is overseen by central University leadership, and encompasses hiring a large cohort of convergence research faculty to work on health, energy, sustainability, and security. We are seeking outstanding candidates with the potential for exceptional research, excellence in teaching, and a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the faculty, graduate, and undergraduate student population. The successful candidates will be appointed to a Department in the Cullen College of Engineering based on their background and expertise.

Position FAC001967- We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to collaborative research and educational efforts in the broad area of Applied Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Systems, Machine Learning, Big Data, Bioinformatics, and High-performance Computing, with applications to: Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Energy Storage, Computationally-enabled Materials Discovery, Next-generation Manufacturing, Quantum Engineering, and Security.

Position FAC001970- We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to collaborative research and educational efforts in the broad area of Applied Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Systems, Machine Learning, Big Data, with applications to Real-Time Optimization and Control, and Process Data Analytics and High-performance Computing with applications to the development of methodologies that balance the privacy of citizens and the ability to detect threats in Health and/or the Digital Economy.

The University of Houston is home to the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Data Science Institute (hpedsi.uh.edu/), the UH Drug Discovery Institute (ddi.uh.edu/) and the Advanced Manufacturing Institute (ami.uh.edu/) and offers numerous opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaborations with researchers from Engineering, Medicine, Law, and Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Houston is also home to the Texas Medical Center (less than four miles from UH) and has a broad industrial base in Energy, Aeronautics, Materials, and Medical Technologies offering additional opportunities for collaborative research.

A complete application consists of: (1) a cover letter; (2) Curriculum Vitae; (3) a detailed description of research interests (not to exceed 5 pages); (4) a statement of education, discussing teaching interests and experience, mentoring experience, and ideas to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion (not to exceed 2 pages); (5) copies of three representative publications; and (6) the name and contact information (phone number and email address) of three professional references whom we may contact. Review of applications will begin by December 1, 2021, and applications will continue to be reviewed until the positions are filled. These positions are available effective September 1, 2022.
