Research Associate / Senior Research Associate, Computational Biology

Description

Description

Do you have the passion to join a group whose mission is to pioneer the discovery of a new class of medicines to treat diseases unaddressed by today’s therapies? Does it excite you to be a part of a company with a focus on cancer and genetically validated targets in other disease areas with unmet medical need? If yes, you may be a great fit to join Arrakis on our path to bring powerful new therapies to millions of patients.

Your Impact at Arrakis

The mission of Arrakis Therapeutics is to extend small molecule medicines into new realms of biology by discovering and developing compounds that selectively target RNA (RNA small molecules, or “rSM”). By targeting distinct RNA structure/function relationships, Arrakis is generating drug candidates with novel mechanisms of action for molecular targets that are challenging to drug in disease areas with high unmet medical need.

In this role, you will derive genomic insights from large next-gen sequencing (NGS) datasets that probe various aspects of the mRNA lifecycle (e.g. transcription, splicing, translation). These insights will be used to support an integrative data-driven approach to identifying functional and druggable RNA elements, to evaluate rSM mechanisms of action, and to help guide a multidisciplinary team to test specific hypotheses. Your work will sit at the intersection of molecular RNA biology, cellular biology, and genomics, and at Arrakis you will have numerous opportunities to collaborate with and learn from experts in these fields and others.

Job Responsibilities:

Learn and employ state-of-the-art computational methods for analyzing NGS data spanning both internal and public datasets, with a focus on RNA-seq, pathway analysis, and differential expression analysis
Visualize large and complex genomics datasets to derive and communicate insights
Quickly pick up new and often nonstandard analysis approaches for different types of sequencing data related to all aspects of RNA biology
Work effectively with biologists and chemists across the company to connect your results with biological and business value
Contribute documented and tested software to a collaborative and extensible codebase
Record, communicate, and present experimental outcomes

Arrakis is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive equal consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, military service, veteran status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Qualifications

Requirements

Bachelor’s with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s in Computational Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related field
Working knowledge of command line-based environments, preferably in the cloud (e.g. AWS, GCP)
Proficiency in at least one common programming language (e.g. Python, R)
Familiarity with standard bioinformatics tools for processing and analyzing large genomic datasets
Experience creating data visualizations using R or Python statistical packages (e.g., tidyverse/ggplot, Matplotlib)
Experience analyzing multiple types of NGS data. (RNA-seq, DNA-seq, CLIP-seq, RACE-seq, etc.)
Familiarity with pipelining tools (Snakemake, Docker) and collaborative code development (Git) is a plus but not required
An open mind and a willingness to learn new techniques
Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills to be an effective team member across disciplines
