Position Description: Research Scientist- Bioinformatics & Computational Biology, position in Christopher S. Bond Life Science Center, University of Missouri-Columbia.
Potential Start Date: November 1, 2021
Duration: 24-month initial appointment, renewable afterwards
Duties and responsibilities: (1) Develop machine learning and deep learning methods and algorithms for biological sequence-based prediction and data analysis of high-throughput biological phenotypic data. (2) Develop and maintain standalone software and web services in bioinformatics and computational biology including MusiteDeep, MULocDeep, and others. (3) Analyze diverse types of biological data, including single-cell sequencing data, genomic data, and multiomic data. (4) Prepare and publish manuscripts and reports. Assist grant and proposal writing. Coordinate or participate in collaborative bioinformatics research and training workshops and course development. (5) Manage lab resources. Train, supervise and review work of some lab members.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicant must have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related field. Strong publication record, especially published research articles as the first author in high-impact journals (Impact Factor > 10). Experience in management and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. Solid computer algorithm knowledge. Working experience in developing modern machine learning / deep learning methods and statistics inferences algorithms and tools in bioinformatics. Excellence in Python, Perl, R, JAVA, Linux scripting language, node.js and related web development in Unix/Linux environment. In-depth capabilities in understanding, implementing and developing bioinformatics data analytics tools, computational methods and algorithms, and databases. In-depth knowledge in bioinformatics and systems biology algorithms. Experiences in Pegasus Workflows, High Performance Computers, Cloud storage and GPU programming. Familiarity with use of Amazon web services (AWS) resources. In-depth experience of bioinformatics problem solving, tools design and development process. Proactive team player with excellent communication and presentation skills.
