Description

The Role:

As part of our vision, Moderna is committed to invest in R&D to further expand our impact on patients. We are building an independent research and business unit for genomic medicines, called Moderna Genomics (mGx) based in Technology Square, Cambridge, MA. mGx will be an innovation engine for the company focused on discovering and delivering the next generation of in vivo gene editing and nonviral gene therapies. It is our intention to be an industry leader in genomic medicines.

mGx seeks an experienced, curious and innovation-driven computational biologist to help power efforts to discover and develop gene editing medicines. The successful candidate will leverage his/her/their computational expertise to design and deploy pipelines to design sgRNAs, analyze on- and off-target editing events, collaborate with wet-lab colleagues to inform robust experimental designs, and clearly communicate findings to the broader team. This role will have the opportunity to make an impact through establishing key informatic pipelines for mGx gene editing efforts and contributing to building the team and culture for this new initiative.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

Develop and deploy computational pipelines to assess on- and off-target gene editing events

Analyze complex biological datasets using rigorous statistical methods and visualization tools to draw conclusions

Collaborate with biologists to enable sgRNA design, experimental design and analysis of various NGS data sets (gene editing, RNAseq, etc)

Create and implement computational tools to support gene editing and other research activities to facilitate data interpretation

Clearly communicate conclusions to the broader team

Qualifications

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

A Ph.D. or MS in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or equivalent field

Demonstrated experience in design, analysis and interpretation of in vivo and/or in vitro biological experiments with NGS data (genomics, functional genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, single-cell RNA-seq), particularly in gene editing context is required (analyze on- and off-target gene editing data)

Experience in relevant programming languages, such as Python, R, and/or Java

Strong foundational understanding of biology and bench science; previous wet lab experience preferred

Experience leveraging cloud computing platforms (AWS or similar)

Demonstrated ability to develop and evolve analysis pipelines based on current state-of-the-art and emerging scientific literature

Ability to communicate complex scientific issues in a logical and coherent manner

Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team

Here’s What We’ll Bring to the Table:

On-site subsidized cafeteria or catered lunches
Company-provided iPhone
Free parking, monthly subway pass or a subsidized commuter rail pass
Free annual corporate membership to Bluebikes
Highly competitive healthcare coverage including: medical offered through BCBS (HMO/PPO), dental, and vision offered through VSP
