About the role:
At Basecamp Research, we are gathering data on millions of previously undiscovered proteins from biodiverse regions around the world. We are hiring Bioinformaticians to lead the in silico characterisation of these novel proteins to address the needs of commercial partners across the bioeconomy.

Responsibilities:
-Perform Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data processing, assembly, analysis, and reporting
-Execute tasks including maintenance and expansion of functional metagenomics analysis pipelines
-Analysis of large-scale metagenomic datasets including phylogenetic analyses and taxonomic classification
-Interpretation, statistical analysis & visualisation of findings
-Communicate insights to the wider team.
-Collaborate with the Field Research and Data Science teams
-Good maintenance of databases, records, and code.

Qualifications

-Graduate Degree (PhD/MSc) in a relevant field (Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or similar) or equivalent industry experience.
-Relevant industry experience (preferred but not essential)
-Experience in a programming language (R / Python) and understanding of command line tools in a Linux environment.
-A strong track record in omics analysis and fluency with standard software tools for high-throughput sequencing data processing.
-Excellent Data analysis skills and experienced with the application of statistical methods to genomics & sequencing data
-Experience with Metagenomics or Microbiome Analysis
-Strong scientific understanding of Molecular Biology and Genomics
-A can-do attitude & team spirit.
-Familiarity with working in a collaborative coding environment.
-Excellent cross-disciplinary communication skills.
-Enthusiasm about the potential of biology and data science to provide innovative solutions to our planet’s challenges.
