The Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI) is offering a position as

Quantitative Data Researcher/ Data Engineer (all genders)

to support our research at the Single-Cell Center.

The Single-Cell Center is a new joint competence center of the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI) with the Medical Faculty of the Julius Maximilians University (JMU) in Würzburg. Its objective is to analyze and understand diseases at the level of individual cells. In the future, this will enable the earliest possible and most reliable prediction of a disease and how they can be treated in the best possible way. More information at www.helmholtz-hiri.de.

Your responsibilities
- Establishing data and databases for processing genomic sequence data (single-cell RNA-seq, single-cell ATAC-seq), microscopic image data, etc.
- Structuring of experimental data sets
- Development of pipelines for data processing
- Development of concepts for data processing and interaction with data
- Design and implementation of a data visualization and interaction web server

Your profile
- Successfully completed PhD degree or equivalent work experience in the field of Data Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Information and Data Management or a similar field of study
- Programming skills with at least Python, R, and SQL, as well as basic knowledge of Unix Shell, Docker, and git
- Ideally, experience with C/C++, JavaScript, and HTML
- Ideally, experience with Big Data, Machine Learning (possibly with Tensorflow/Keras), and Multidimensional Data
- Experience with web design (HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and UI/UX)
- Experience working with Docker, CI/CD pipelines or PaaS systems
- Data visualization techniques (e.g. R Shiny, Rmarkdown, Tableau, ggplot2, plotly)
- Interest in the research areas of HIRI
- You are open to new ideas, enjoy working in an international environment and demonstrate a strong can-do spirit

About the HIRI
The Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI) is the first institution worldwide to combine ribonucleic acid (RNA) research with infection biology. Based on novel findings from our strong basic research program, our long-term goal is to develop innovative therapeutic approaches to better diagnose and treat human infections. HIRI is a joint venture of the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig and the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg (JMU) and is located on the Würzburg Medical Campus.
