Indiana University School of Medicine, a national leader in research, education and clinical care, is seeking a visionary leader for Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science.

The Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science within the Indiana University School of Medicine, in close partnership with the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, conducts collaborative education and research programs to improve health for Indiana and the world. The Department is currently ranked 12th in NIH funding among Biostatistics Departments and provides an outstanding educational environment that prepares learners to become biostatisticians and data scientists skilled in solving real-world problems.

The Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science conduct research in aging, biomedical informatics, cancer, cardiology, dentistry, endocrinology, gastroenterology and hepatology, geriatrics, internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, nursing, veteran’s affairs, pediatrics, and many other disciplines. These collaborative research pursuits with investigators throughout the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Regenstrief Institute, other Indiana University partners and across the world. Further, they have served as primary investigators on global AIDS studies, such as the International epidemiology Database to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA), and been lead authors on manuscripts on a broad range of biomedical fields including independently funded methodological research. Faculty research covers traditional areas of focus such as longitudinal modeling, survival analysis and missing data problems, along with newer areas such as adaptive clinical trials, bioinformatics and analysis of medical imaging data, with increasing expertise in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data science. The department is also known for innovative methodology that improves the design and analysis of research studies.

This position is ideal for a transformational leader who can build on existing strengths in Biostatistics and Health Data Science to develop new programs. Minimum qualifications include an MD, PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent, an extramurally funded research program, and academic credentials for a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Doctorate or Terminal degree is required. IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the country with more than 20,000 living alumni and 3,000 learners on nine campuses across the state. Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health seeks to create a healthier state, nation and world by improving strategies to prevent illness, disability and injury, and by improving how health care services are delivered. Founded in 2012, FSPH has grown its small departmental research portfolio, with six awards totaling less than $200k, to a robust school portfolio of more than 50 awards exceeding $13m in total value. The school has a robust research portfolio that includes projects that develop and leverage electronic health records as well as large registries for population health research, global health studies that seek to find solutions to environmental and health delivery challenges, and cutting-edge research to address the social determinants of health and disparities in care delivery as well as outcomes. Academic programs at FSPH, which includes a BS in Health Data Science, MS in Biostatistics, and PhD in Biostatistics, are fully accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH) as well as the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA), the only U.S. school of public health to have that distinction.
