Description

PhD student positions now available researching Computational Cancer Biology at UMass Lowell. Admissions are on a rolling basis. This research sits at the crossroads of computational biology, data science, and epidemiology, and there are a number of possible projects, see rdmelamed.github.io/#projects. Your ideas for other projects are welcome!

Students who want to work in disease research, and who are interested in learning and applying data science methods should contact me to join. Our work is 100% computational, using data sets generated by other people. So, students should be excited to visualize and model data sets using tools like R and Python, and packages like tensorflow/pytorch and Stan.

These positions are fully funded with a mix of TAship and research funds. Students should contact me, and can apply to the UML Applied Biology PhD program www.uml.edu/sciences/biology/programs-of-study/phd-applied-biology.aspx – applications are rolling.

Lowell is located in greater Boston and with access to numerous biotech and science opportunities.
Other benefits include: access to cutting edge biomedical data; new computing workstations and access to the Massachusetts computing cluster; supportive environment with flexibility to design your own curriculum and research ideas if desired. We have collaborations across many departments, including neuroscience, computer science, electrical engineering, and health sciences.
