Description

We require an experienced bioinformatics software developer to take the lead in further developing the PSIPRED Protein Structure Analysis Workbench, a world-class bioinformatics resource that has been in continuous operation since 1998. PSIPRED, recently recognised as an ELIXIR-UK Node Service, encompasses a wide-range of bioinformatics tools developed within the Bioinformatics Group at UCL and currently handles up to 1000 user jobs a day. In addition to the main task of maintaining and further developing the server, the post holder will help promote the service within the community and also take part in some of the internationally leading bioinformatics research projects within the lab.

The main theme of this phase of the work is to develop and deploy deep learning methods on the server, including our newer de novo modelling tools (DMPfold). There will also be ample opportunities to work on research projects, particular in the area of machine learning and protein structure and function.

The position is funded until 30th November 2025.

Qualifications

A PhD in bioinformatics or other relevant subject is expected, and significant experience of Python and C/C++ scientific software development with an emphasis on developing web servers is essential. A track record in writing and publishing scientific papers is required, and experience in machine learning, particularly with neural networks, would be highly advantageous.
