Description

A research fellowship is available at the BioComputing UP Laboratory, University of Padova (URL: protein.bio.unipd.it/). A highly motivated and creative candidate is sought to work in the field of structural bioinformatics, focusing on tandem repeat proteins and non-globular protein phenomena. The biocurator will maintain, expand and improve the data in RepeatsDB (repeatsdb.bio.unipd.it/) and related projects.

The biocurator will be in charge of the updating of the resource with manually reviewed data and of the development of the database classification. The candidate will support the improvement of our protocol for inclusion of data and assist in turning this resource into a community supported resource.

CONTEXT
The BioComputing UP Laboratory, led by Prof. Silvio Tosatto, is a dynamic group of about fifteen people working on several aspects of prediction of protein structure & function employing techniques at the intersection between biology, medicine, chemistry, physics & computer science. Our aim is to integrate the development of novel methods and their application to biologically relevant problems. The group is currently funded by the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC) and the European infrastructure for bioinformatics (ELIXIR). In addition, we are also coordinating the Marie Curie RISE consortia IDPfun and REFRACT

Qualifications

The ideal candidate optimally has good experience in bio-curation tasks, an understanding of databases, python and data visualisation. A good knowledge of statistics and bioinformatics tools is desirable. Candidates should have a MS level degree with top marks and be highly motivated to work on interdisciplinary research. Good knowledge of English, dedication, an open-minded spirit, being collaborative and creative are crucial.
