Description

We are recruiting PhD students interested in computational and experimental aspects of cancer research. Our lab uses both wet and dry lab approaches and expertise is welcomed in either, though the ideal candidate would have interest in both aspects of research.

We are looking to fill the following two PhD positions:

Computationally-centered PhD project. This project will initially focus on computational tumor models to describe the dynamics of cellular states and cell-fate response to perturbations based on our 2D and 3D live single-cell experiments. Students are expected to be comfortable programming and developing their own simulation and data-analysis pipelines (R, C, Matlab, Python or others). Background in non-linear dynamics and topology are a plus. Experimental skills are definitely of interest for us but not a must.

Experimentally-centered PhD project. Study models of triple negative breast cancer to identify cellular vulnerabilities in the context of chemotherapy. The project involves extensive use of genetic engineering for developing new reporters, cell line generation and fluorescent microscopy. This project will initially focus on how non-genetic cellular states affect the response to chemotherapy. Students will implement already established image analysis pipelines and the data analysis tools. Programming skills are definitely a plus for us but not a must.

Host lab and institute
Recruited PhD students will work at the recently established Granada Laboratory in the translational research unit from the Charité Comprehensive Cancer Center in Berlin, Germany. The Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin is one of the largest university hospitals in Europe. The Charité Comprehensive Cancer Center, is supported by the German Cancer Aid as a center of excellence in oncology and is the first oncological center certified through the German Cancer Society.
