Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow

Duties & Responsibilities: The Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania invites applications for multiple post-doctoral fellow positions in Dr. Qi Long’s research group (www.med.upenn.edu/long-lab/) with a starting date in 2020. The positions are open until filled and the appointment is for two years, with a possible extension for a third year.

These positions will offer opportunities to develop and/or apply machine learning, data mining and informatics methods for analysis of complex big health data. The following research areas are of particular interest: 1) machine learning and text mining methods for analysis of electronic health records (EHRs) data; and 2) machine learning and data mining methods for integrative analysis of multi-omics data and imaging data for prediction of disease risk, prognosis and progression, and identification of disease subtypes etc. towards the goal of advancing precision medicine for Alzheimer’s disease.

The successful candidate(s) are expected to develop independence in methodological research through activities such as writing peer-reviewed publications for research conferences and journals, giving presentations, and assisting in grant proposal development. The successful candidate(s) will analyze large datasets for Alzheimer’s disease from multiple studies. There will be opportunities for the successful candidate(s) to be co-mentored by Dr. Long’s collaborators in informatics and computer science.
The starting date is negotiable. If desired, the successful candidate(s) can start immediately.

Qualifications

Position Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in bio/statistics, bioinformatics, computer science, informatics, computational biology, or related quantitative fields. The following skills are desirable but not all of them are required: excellent programming skills in R/Matlab/Python and possibly one lower level computer language such as C/C++; experience and expertise in deep learning and/or text mining; excellent writing and oral communication skills.
