The Department of Biomedical Sciences in the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Staff Scientist in Bioinformatics. Responsibilities for this position will be divided between the Marshall Genomics and Bioinformatics Core Facility, the laboratory of Andrew Nato, and the laboratory of James Denvir. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field; candidates with a Master’s degree and equivalent expertise and experience will be considered.


Qualifications

Required qualifications:

Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
Experience and expertise in the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, such as RNA-Seq, Whole Exome or Whole Genome data.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data sets and technical aspects of analytical techniques to collaborators with minimal expertise in those fields.
Experience working in a Linux environment and programming skills in R.

Strongly preferred qualifications:

Working knowledge of computational genetics
Working knowledge of statistical genetics

Preferred qualifications:

Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
Experience working in a research core facility or similar environment.
Experience accessing and/or contributing to public genomic databases.
Programming skills in Python, or similar scripting languages, Java, or similar high-level languages, and experience with full-stack web application development.
