Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile informatics scientist to join our multi-disciplinary Computational Sciences department. You will design and build the data management infrastructure needed to capture, store, search, analyze, and visualize data from workflows and instruments across LifeMine. That includes identifying areas of need, surveying available commercial and open source solutions, making “build versus buy” decisions, coordinating pilot studies, leading deployment and integration, and monitoring uptake and usage. You will work closely with end users in functional areas across the company as well as a variety of vendors and solution providers to support and accelerate the work of the LifeMine team.

Job Responsibilities

Lead the Informatics initiative by understanding the needs of scientists working with a wide range of chemical, biological, and genomic data:
• Research, evaluate, deploy, and integrate informatics solutions
• Manage relationships with vendors and CROs
• Coordinate the support and training of end users
• Track costs and usage and proactively manage both
• Effectively champion informatics across LifeMine with end users and leadership


Qualifications

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Informatics, Computer Science, or a relevant scientific field
• 8+ years of experience in industry, academia, or a non-profit setting
• Demonstrated success in a complex, multi-disciplinary research setting
• Experience with scientific data management, including compound registration, inventory, instrument data capture, assay results, electronic laboratory notebooks, and custom web apps
• Fluency in Unix command line environments, and proficient in at least one scripting languages such as Python or Perl
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g. AWS) and dev ops (Docker, Git, etc.) is a strong positive
• Experience in web app development is highly desirable
• Working knowledge of genomics and bioinformatics is a plus
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, and communicate results clearly to peers and leadership
• A sense of adventure and excitement to be part of the development of a new drug discovery paradigm
