Description

The Computational Biology Department in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a research programmer to join a team working on a NIH-funded effort to create a 3D molecular and anatomical map of the human body (www.nature.com/articles/s41586-019-1629-x). Working under the lead Systems Scientist, and in collaboration with faculty involved in this effort, the candidate is expected to develop and adapt software tools for the analysis of biological high-throughput imaging data. As part of this project, the candidate will join a team that consists of an additional programmer at CMU and at other project locations. The candidate would also interact closely with experimental and computational collaborators at several different universities in the US. The team would also be involved in establishing data formats, APIs and schemas for the software developed and would help determine procedures for data analysis and quality control.

This is a unique opportunity to join an outstanding team that is working on one of the most important challenges in computational and systems biology and to collaborate with leading experimental and computational researchers in the US and abroad.

Qualifications

An ideal candidate would have:

- An undergraduate degree (MSc an advantage) in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science or a related area
- Experience in the development of software tools for the analysis of imagining data
- Knowledge and experience in using cloud-based infrastructure, containerizing applications and workflow languages (for example, CWL) is an advantage
- Knowledge of biology is an advantage but not a requirement
