Description

The School of Natural Sciences at University of California, Merced is seeking one new faculty member at the Assistant (tenure-track) level in Computational Biology. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of impactful collaborative and independent research in fundamental problems of Molecular and Cell Biology, including, but not limited to, how cellular information processing and decision making, or other fundamental molecular and cellular structures and functions, emerge from the inherently stochastic dynamics of molecular and cellular systems. The successful candidate will develop and apply modeling approaches such as machine learning to integrate quantitative high-throughput measurements with stochastic models of molecular and cellular dynamics. We seek outstanding scholars who will establish and maintain creative research programs; contribute to a multi-faculty specialization in quantitative molecular systems biology at UC Merced; participate actively in the development of innovative interdisciplinary programs and research; and teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates with a track record of collaborative research or who study systems from non-model organisms are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Systems Biology, or allied field. The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computationally intensive and reproducible research approaches to biostatistics, computational biology, and data science applied to molecular and cell biology, systems biology, and related fields. UC Merced offers a unique academic atmosphere that fosters interdisciplinary research – connecting physical and mathematical sciences research to life sciences, materials sciences and engineering. Our mission is to train the next generation of scientists from diverse backgrounds that UC Merced was built to serve. We strive to generate an inclusive environment for all, through our teaching, our research, and our mentoring of future scientists. Diverse perspectives are at the core of these endeavors. As such, we aim to cultivate a diverse faculty and student body, and to support them in an equitable and inclusive work environment. We believe that an intentional commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion will enhance our mission as a scientific institution and provide access and opportunity to all.

Qualifications
