Description

Two postdoctoral fellowship positions are currently open in the group of Dr. Ivan Ovcharenko at the National Center for Biotechnology Information at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our group is investigating gene regulatory mechanisms in the human and other complex genomes using computational approaches. We are particularly interested in the development of machine learning methods for accurate prediction of disease causative non-coding variants.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with experience in regulatory/functional genomics, deep learning, or statistics. A major component of this work will rely on combining genomic data, machine learning, and whole-genome data integration to decipher the semantics of the gene regulatory code.

Some of our recent publications:
- "Identification of human silencers by correlating cross-tissue epigenetic profiles and gene expression", Genome Research, 2019
- "Stable enhancers are active in development, and fragile enhancers are associated with evolutionary adaptation", Genome Biology, 2019
- "The first enhancer in an enhancer chain safeguards subsequent enhancer-promoter contacts from a distance", Genome Biology, 2019

This position provides stable, multi-year funding and outstanding benefits. The NIH is located within miles from Washington, DC. The area is filled with amenities and the vibrant DC life-style with plenty of restaurants, dining and shopping just around the corner.

Qualifications

Strong skills in computational biology, genome data mining, or deep learning would be beneficial . Ph.D. degree is required. Applicants should have no more than 5 years of prior postdoctoral experience.
