Description

Are you interested in semantics, metadata, ontologies, making data FAIR, and building tools that help biocurators? The Berkeley Bioinformatics Open Source Project at the Berkeley Lab (LBNL) has an opening for a software developer with an interest in knowledge graphs, ontologies, and biocuration to help build tools for ontology mapping, text mining, semantic search, and ontology-based analysis of a wide variety of datasets, including environmental and biomedical datasets. You will get to work on high-profile, multi-organization bioinformatics projects including the Gene Ontology (GO), the Monarch Initiative, and the brand-new National Microbiome Data Collaborative (NMDC).

We actively seek diverse applicants for this position. Note that applicants are not expected to have extensive knowledge of biology--we are open to those who are eager to learn about areas such as molecular biology, molecular ecology and microbiome science.

Working at Berkeley Lab (which is run by UC Berkeley) offers many benefits, including excellent health insurance coverage, a retirement program that is second to none, and flexibility in work schedule. Our offices are in West Berkeley, just across the Bay from San Francisco.
