Description

NBIS is a distributed national research infrastructure with funding from Vetenskapsrådet (the Swedish Research Council), Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation, SciLifeLab and Swedish universities. The purpose of NBIS is to provide bioinformatics support and infrastructure to Life Science researchers. There are over 70 NBIS experts distributed around the country with expertise in DNA, RNA and protein analysis, systems biology, genome analysis, mass spectroscopy proteomics, and metabolomics. NBIS also has a group that is focused on supporting Swedish Life Science researchers according to the principles of Open Science and FAIR, in close collaboration with the SciLifeLab Data Centre. We are now looking for a Bioinformatican who will work as a Data Steward to further strengthen the data management competence in NBIS. More information about NBIS may be found at nbis.se/

We are looking for a person that wants to support Swedish Life Science research to manage and publish its research data in the best way possible. You will work with supporting research groups to make Data Management Plans, and to aid them to structure and publish the research data that they generate. An important part of the work is also to educate researchers in data management and relevant software tools.


Qualifications

The applicant shall have a master degree within the areas of Life Science, Information Technology, or Bioinformatics, or shall possess an equivalent or higher level of understanding within one or several of these areas acquired by other means. It is a requirement to be familiar with international repositories for deposition of Life Science data, and relevant data types and community standards. The applicant shall have knowledge about the principles of Open Science and FAIR.

The applicant should furthermore have:

A documented experience of teaching at the university level.
Working knowledge of using UNIX/Linux.
The applicant shall have good interpersonal and communication skills, and be self-motivated. You should be service minded and able to adapt. You should also be quality conscious and result oriented. You should be able to communicate in English in both speech and writing. Emphasis will be put on personal suitability.

Merits:

Experience of applying Carpentries teaching methodology
Experience of scripting in e.g. Bash, Python, or R, as well as version control using git.
Experience of working with user support.
