Description

The Martin Lab and the Samee Lab at Baylor College of Medicine are jointly recruiting a Machine Learning Scientist. The candidate should have strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and experience with machine learning programming in Python and/or R (proficient in scikit-learn/caret, Keras, TensorFlow). The candidate will be responsible for analysis and modeling of single-cell genomics data. Prior background in molecular biology and genomics is a plus, but not required. Candidates with a Ph.D. and prior experience in (a) computational genomics, or (b) computer vision, or (c) natural language processing will have the opportunity to pursue their own innovative ideas in the realm of single-cell genomics that broadly align with goals of the recruiting labs. Such experienced candidates will also get career advancement opportunities that include support for attendance to relevant conferences (e.g., NeuroIPS, ICML, and the meetings at CSHL), networking within academia and industry, and participation in manuscript and grant proposal writing.

The Martin Lab is an internationally recognized leader in the area of tissue regeneration. Utilizing single-cell genomics, the Martin Lab has recently made significant advances in discovering how signaling pathways regulate cardiac and retinal tissue regeneration. The Samee Lab develops computational algorithms utilizing machine learning and comparative genomics approaches to answer questions in regulatory genomics, especially mechanistic questions that relate to human physiology and disease. The two labs are now collaborating to generate and model novel single-cell transcriptomics datasets to discover molecular interventions that can efficiently regenerate cardiac and retinal tissues.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or any related quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics or bioengineering), with five years of relevant experience. Preferred: Postgraduate degree (Ph.D. or Masters) in any related quantitative discipline.
2. Fluent in Python and/or R.
3. Experience with standard machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn/caret, TensorFlow, Keras).
