Description

The Department of Urology, SUNY Upstate Medical University seeks a well-motivated bioinformatician to join a lab. of Bioinformatics, Genome and Transriptome Data Analysis and Quantitative Oncology (prof. V.A. Kuznetsov). The Bioinformatician will be responsible for the development of computational tumor genomics methods and analysis of the next generation sequencing and clinical data, maintaining the existing and develop new pipelines and bioinformatics databases and hardware infrastructure of the laboratory. Must have excellent programming skills in programming languages such as R, Perl, Python, C++ and in-depth knowledge of Apache, MySql, and PHP. Must be comfortable, working in a Unix/Linus operating system, write codes, multitask jobs while working mostly independently and exercising good judgment concerning meeting deadlines with ability to provide well-documented and adequately interpreted results. Experience with genome&transciptome analytical methods and cloud servers is a plus. Able to develop and use advanced statistical, machine learning and big data-driven analytical tools. Must have strong communication and writing skills with the ability to interact with other researchers from diverse scientific backgrounds and provide a contribution towards publications in peer-reviewed journals.


Qualifications

Master's degree in computational biology, computer science, bioinformatics, computational statistics or other related analytical discipline is required. Minimum two years experience in bioinformatics/computational biology is required. PHD preferred.
