Description

The David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) is searching for a tenure-track professor to join our faculty in the field of Computational Medicine. The successful candidate will enjoy a richly collaborative working relationship and possible joint appointment with the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (HSSEAS). We are seeking candidates with strong data science and biomedical science research programs that involve the development and use of novel computational methodologies, and who share a sense of mission in the data science revolution of the biomedical sciences. Preference lies at the Assistant Professor level, but exceptional candidates at Associate or Full Professor will be considered.

The DGSOM and HSSEAS have established the Computational Medicine Initiative to lead the transformation of biomedical sciences by leveraging recent advances in data sciences. The recently established Institute for Precision Health in the DGSOM provides unique opportunities to build upon successful collaborations between these two schools and encourage new ones. UCLA plans to hire faculty with diverse interests including Computational Genomics, Clinical Machine Learning, Computer Vision applied to Medical Imaging, and other areas which span Engineering and Medicine. The Computational Medicine Initiative will play a critical role in strengthening collaboration between engineering and medicine at UCLA by hiring faculty with the goal of establishing UCLA as the leading program in Data Science in biomedical data.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent by the date of appointment and provide, depending on their level of experience, either potential for or evidence of scholarly impact through publications, excellence in teaching, and ability to obtain extramural grant funding, as well as strong oral and written communication skills. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. Faculty appointment level and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of referees, a research statement, a teaching statement, and a statement of contributions to equity and diversity inclusion to Bogdan Pasaniuc, Chair of the Computational Medicine Faculty Search Committee.
