Description

Faculty Position in Microbiome Research
Channing Division of Network Medicine
Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School

The Channing Division of Network Medicine (CDNM) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital seeks to recruit a new faculty member in the area of microbiome studies of complex diseases. Qualified candidates will have expertise in the analysis of microbiome data. The position encompasses broad opportunities, and either experience with epidemiologic research in the microbiome or skills in the development of new analytical methods are beneficial. CDNM hosts many relevant cohorts, including the ongoing Nurses’ Health Studies, with up to 40 years of follow-up and repeated detailed information on diet and lifestyle from over 200,000 women. From this and many other cohorts, we have multiple biospecimen types to be leveraged, ranging from DNA samples from more than 200,000 individuals to an ongoing collection of 20,000 stool and oral swab samples. The Division has its own freezer storage system and extensive computing resources.

The Division seeks junior faculty applicants to build their own research programs in microbiome research that will, at least in part, leverage the extensive study populations, biological samples, and genetic/genomic data available within the Division.

Qualifications

Expertise in computational biology is strongly preferred. The new faculty will develop collaborations with existing faculty who have expertise in statistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, and genomics of complex human diseases. The successful candidate will engage in teaching students and post-doctoral fellows.

Academic appointment as Instructor or Assistant Professor rank at Harvard Medical School will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience. Secondary appointment at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health will also be considered for appropriate applicants.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
