Description

Beam Therapeutics is developing precision genetic medicines for serious diseases. Co-founded by scientific pioneers known for advancing CRISPR gene editing, we’re the first company to pursue development of new therapies using CRISPR base editing technology. We aim to use these technologies to generate a broad pipeline of precision genetic medicines that repair disease-causing point mutations, write in protective genetic variations, or modulate the expression or function of disease-causing genes.

We are seeking an innovative, collaborative and accomplished computational scientist to support the development of novel gene editing therapies using our next-generation, state-of-the-art technology. The individual in this position will play a key role in developing Beam’s computational biology tools and infrastructure and will work closely with experimental scientists to support therapeutic programs and other research activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop computational pipelines to analyze data from novel and existing next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays for the assessment of on-target and potential off-target gene editing events
Analyze complex biological datasets by deploying statistical methods and visualization tools to draw conclusions
Work closely with program teams and provide computational support for target identification, guide RNA design, and follow-up data analysis such as targeted genome sequencing and RNA sequencing
Create and implement computational tools to support gene editing and other research activities, including the development of web tools to facilitate data interpretation and sharing
Communicate scientifically rigorous findings via verbal and written communications, visualizations, and presentations

Qualifications

Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or equivalent field
Industry experience is preferred
Strong scientific background and publication record in computational biology
Knowledge of relevant programming languages, such as Python, R, and/or Java
Familiarity with common bioinformatics tools for NGS data analysis
Ability to work independently while also building relationships with colleagues
