Description

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Faculty of Science at the University of Southern Denmark invites candidates to apply for a three-year funded PhD position in the Bioinformatics group on Computational Precision Medicine, available as soon as possible.

The candidate will work in an international collaboration and will develop novel methods for the large-scale analysis of genetic data unravelling statistically significant distributions of genetic traits and modifications in the DNA. These results will be employed in further machine learning steps for identifying relevant, population specific traits in disease responses and patters, paving the way towards precision medicine.

The project will be conducted in the Bioinformatics research group. The group develops computational methods for efficient analysis and evaluation of large-scale biomedical data sets. The research involves the development of novel and innovative artificial intelligence methods (based e.g. on Deep Learning) for analysing massive-scale biomedical wet lab data. By collaborating with researchers from all areas of the life sciences, we seek to understand the metabolic processes that underlie diseases, cell differentiation, and cellular adaptation to changing environmental conditions.

The successful candidate should have:

• A Master-s level degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biomedicine or similar
• Expertise in designing machine learning methods for OMICS data sets
• Hands-on expertise in state-of-the-art big data analytics, such as Deep Learning
• Programming skills.

Deadline: 5 November 2018.
