The Department of Pathology, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is inviting applications from qualified candidates at the Instructor, Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor level for a full-time, open tenure or non-tenure earning position through the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine. This position will work across campus for collaborative research and clinical work requiring bioinformatics expertise. Responsibilities include building and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines for clinical next generation sequencing in a CLIA certified molecular diagnostic laboratory and providing bioinformatics support for varying basic and translational research projects. Research and publications in related areas are required. The candidate should have excellent communication and collaborative skills and will work closely with our growing faculty team at the molecular diagnostic laboratory at UAB Hospital.

The candidate must have a M.D./Ph.D. in relevant discipline with demonstrative experience in handling next-generation sequence data and the relevant bioinformatics tool chains. Ph.D. candidates should have background in a bioinformatics-relevant discipline. Experience requirements will be evaluated. A background in analysis of genetic variants in the context of disease is a plus. The candidate will work across departments, centers and schools to lead clinical genomic diagnostics and bioinformatics support at UAB. Salary, rank, and tenure- status are commensurate with experience and background. The UAB School of Medicine has committed significant resources to the establishment of a Division of Genomic Diagnostics & Bioinformatics in the Department of Pathology and an institutional Genomic Diagnostic Laboratory. The Division will also be actively engaged in ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship program, including Molecular Genetic Pathology, and graduate training of Bioinformatics, including physician-scientists.
