Description

We are seeking a computational scientist to develop next generation data management tools to support structural models produced by emerging integrative and hybrid structure determination methods. The structure models targeted by these integrative methods are typically very large macromolecular machines of great biological and biomedical interest. The methodology combines information obtained from complementary experimental methods, such as X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, small-angle scattering, chemical crosslinking, fluorescence resonance energy transfer, electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, and other biophysical and computational methods. A prototype system called PDB-Dev (pdb-dev.wwpdb.org) has been built to archive the structures of biological macromolecules determined using integrative/hybrid methods. The successful candidate will work closely with personnel at the RCSB Protein Data Bank (www.rcsb.org), who built the infrastructure and software tools required to curate, validate and disseminate structural models of macromolecules.

Applicants will be considered at the postdoctoral or research associate level.

Qualifications

The computational scientist will develop new software tools and workflows for archiving integrative/hybrid structural models.

Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Computational Chemistry, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related disciplines with a strong publication record and expertise in structural biology and in data science. Demonstrated experience in computational programming and development of software tools for structural biology is required along with proficiency in high-level programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Java.

In-depth knowledge of concepts in structural and molecular biology and strong written and oral communication skills are required. Applicants should be self-motivated and possess the ability to work independently.
