Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic software developer to join the Proteomics Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). The post holder will be working in the Biocontainers project, which aims to improve infrastructure for providing bioinformatics software containers.



S/he will contribute to the development of BioContainers initiative (biocontainers.pro/) by implementing a new API and web interface. In addition, s/he will contribute to the deployment of bioinformatics (proteomics) data analysis pipelines using the Galaxy, OpenMS and Kubernetes framework. The planned work is part of an ELIXIR implementation project between different ELIXIR nodes.

Main responsibilities:

Implementation of a new API and web interface for the Biocontainers project;
Interaction with members from other ELIXIR nodes involved in the project.

Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate should have a degree in computer science or bioinformatics and be able to demonstrate a minimum of 3 or more year’s experience in software development, ideally with experience in cloud technologies.



The candidates must be able to demonstrate at least 3 years’ working experience in a suitable programming language such as Java, Spring Framework, and Python. In addition, the candidate should ideally have experience with cloud technologies, such as: OpenStack, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Applicants will work in a highly international, team-oriented environment and collaborate closely with external partners. Excellent communication skills are essential. The ability to work independently, under time pressure, and the dedication to communicate openly are necessary skills.
