The Bioinformatics Scientist I functions as a laboratory data analyst for day to day clinical runs as a part of the Tumor Profiling Laboratory. This individual is an integral part of the high-complexity clinical molecular diagnostic environment and works under appropriate direction to provide in-depth analysis and delivery of data generated from genomic technologies (DNAseq, RNAseq, ChIP-seq, etc.). Other responsibilities include testing and validation of new software for high performance computing of large genomic data and provide input to workflow, design, build and testing. A successful candidate will possess a high level of professional maturity, an ability to consistently adhere to deadlines, great attention to detail and determination for the utmost quality result. All responsibilities are to support the molecular characterization of patient tumor specimens in order to identify genomic abnormalities.


Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Biology, or related field with emphasis in Bioinformatics. Master’s degree in Bioinformatics is preferred.

Experience: One to three years’ experience working with bioinformatic tools and databases preferred. Experience working within a CLIA/CAP certified clinical diagnostic laboratory is desired.

Special Skills: Concrete understanding of bioinformatic analysis, genomic tools, repositories, and databases. Strong background of Linux system software development and programming proficiency in Java, Perl, R, or Python. Knowledge of key biological processes, NGS technology, and cancer biology is preferred.
