Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual interested in joining a multidisciplinary computational genomics group to develop and implement software for genome analysis, annotation and data management in the laboratory of Dr. Christine Elsik. The Elsik lab focuses on integration of “omics” data to gain insight into biological function and evolution, and applies novel approaches in the annotation of eukaryotic genomes. Dr. Elsik has a joint appointment in the Divisions of Animal and Plant Sciences, and is a core faculty member of the MU Informatics Institute. Ongoing projects include the Hymenoptera Genome Database, the Bovine Genome Database, HymenopteraMine, BovineMine and MaizeMine.

The goal of this position is to contribute to the group’s genome database projects through the development of data mining and graphical applications for genome and annotation data. Other responsibilities may include developing controlled vocabularies, documenting code, formatting genomics data, developing user documentation and tutorials for bioinformatics software, training scientists to use bioinformatics software, and providing technical advice to graduate students and undergraduate student researchers. This position will provide a motivated individual with opportunities to present their work at international conferences and to participate in open-source bioinformatics software developer groups.
