As Head of Bioinformatics you will be a key member of the Axcella R&D leadership team. You will be responsible for building the informatics and computational biology arm of the Axcellerator™ platform. You will collaborate closely with our Discovery Platform teams and develop or implement tools and methods to assist in the design and analysis of internal and external data. To help support this program, you will cultivate a high achieving team that regularly transforms data into meaningful insights.
• Develop data analysis pipelines and bioinformatics methods to derive insights from a diverse set of data
• Establish IT and automation pipelines to assist with combinatorial experimental design
• Analysis of data from Discovery Platform including combinatorial deconvolution and developing novel optimization algorithms
• Analyze external and internal omics data to derive amino acid discoveries
• Understand needs across the organization and work with other leaders to prioritize and allocate resources
• Lead and develop a team of computational biologists and data scientists
Ph.D. in a biological or bioinformatics discipline with 8+ years of work experience
• Biological and technical understanding of genetic and metabolic data, preferably related to amino acid biology
• Proven track record and hands on experience defining and implementing computational solutions to data analysis and visualization across diverse types of biological and medical data, including statistical and machine learning methods
• Track record of effective cross-functional collaboration on complex projects involving people with very diverse backgrounds
• Experience leading data / computational scientists in both technical and career development
• Familiarity with at least one relevant programming language
