UAB Department of Pathology, Genomic Diagnostics and Bioinformatics Division, is seeking a bioinformatics engineer/analysist/scientist. Applications are invited from qualified candidates. Responsibilities of this position include taking a lead role in building and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines for clinical next generation sequencing in a CLIA certified molecular diagnostic laboratory. Reseach and publish in the related areas. The candidate should have excellent communication and collaborative skills and will work closely with our growing faculty team at the molecular diagnostic laboratory at UAB Hospital.

The candidate should have a Masters degree/Ph.D./M.D in relevant a discipline with 2+ years of demonstrated experience in handling next-generation sequencing data and relevant bioinformatics tool-chains. Salary will be commensurate with experience. A Ph.D. in bioinformatics, may substitute for experience. A background in analysis of genetic variants in the context of human disease is a plus. Mastery of R, Linux bash shell, and at least one scripting language like Perl or Python is a mandatory requirement. Exposure to web-technologies like Javascript/HTML5/JQuery is a plus.
