The Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing – IUPUI campus invites applications for an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of BioHealth Informatics (BHI). The appointment will begin January 1, 2018 at the IUPUI campus. Exceptional researchers are being sought. The successful candidate will have a fundable research agenda in areas such as next-generation sequencing, comparative –omics technology, biomedical statistical model development, innovative algorithm and software development and/or related bioinformatics areas. The department seeks applicants with an active research agenda and with a track record of teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses in bioinformatics. While fundamentally devoted to the conduct of research, the incumbent will also be responsible for a minimal teaching load of (for instance) one course per semester and will mentor undergraduate and graduate students, involving them in said research.
The BHI department has long-standing M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Bioinformatics and is developing an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree in Biomedical Informatics program. The department seeks applicants with an active research agenda who are also capable of teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses in bioinformatics and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students. The BHI Department collaborates closely with other departments in the application of technology to address information needs in biomedical sciences and healthcare.
By strengthening and/or complementing existing faculty in the Department and School, ideal candidates will use creative, innovative approaches and technologies to address fundamental information challenges with broad societal impact. The candidate will have the potential to leverage the strengths of the IUPUI campus, including its unique location in downtown Indianapolis, interdisciplinary and collaborative environment and nation-wide leadership in the health and life sciences. Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics or Computer Science with computational biology background or related field. Applicants must have completed their degree by the date of appointment.
• Ability to develop a record of research productivity with emerging national impact; ability to acquire external competitive research funding.
• Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and interact effectively with faculty peers and students at all levels.
